Women Entrepreneurs Forge Their Own Paths

The venerable Wall Street Journal is obviously run by testosterone. That is the only excuse for its repeated articles on why women are "losing" in the small business world. Their most recent article touts the same dull message. This time they are bemoaning the fact that women's businesses don't create as many jobs as men's businesses, nor do they typically reach the same big size.

Oh posh.

If men want to prove they are successful by having big businesses, let them. Women don't need to prove anything. It is women who forged the path to home businesses, the most sensible and creative use of talent in business that I can think of. Millions more serve clients with boutiques and service businesses of all kinds.

These are the entrepreneurs who juggle three kids, ballet lessons, Little League, parent-teacher conferences, supervising children's online activities, all the "home maker" stuff like putting nutritious meals on the table, and still find time to contribute to the community AND run a business. You know, the rate at which women get ulcers doesn't match that of men's until women enter the formal work force. mmmmm. That says a lot about our society.

If there is a single thing that women entrepreneurs contribute to the business world, it is the message that we all need to trust in our own skills. They do it every single time they opt for a home based business. How many men have that kind of strength and creativity?
